Courtney Lane is an author I stalk a lot. She writes amazing books and I am in awe in what she writes. Her books are far from normal. She writes books outside the norm and that is why I love reading them. She just has a way of making them so mesmerizing and captivating. I remember reading The Sordid Promise(It was my first book from her) and I was blown away by the dark and twisty tale she spun on me. I became addicted and decided to find out more about her. She is truly an amazing author and I cannot wait to see what she has in store. I got an opportunity to interview her and I am so stocked that I got to know more information about her. Below is my awesome interview I had with her. Enjoy.
Thank you so much Courtney Lane for taking the time to answer my questions and I truly appreciate getting to know more about you.
Thank you so much for having me, Tanaka.
Q: Hi, Courtney Lane, tell us more about yourself and your writing?
A: I began writing when I was only eight years old. I never in a million years thought, “Hey, maybe I should be an author.” My writing was a very private hobby and my therapy. It wasn’t until I was in my hometown visiting my parents when my mother twisted my arm and motivated me to publish my first book. I told her I’d release one and see how it went.
Q: You decided to change from super dark to gritty romance and paranormal. What made you decide to change?
A: It’s not a change, but a return. Most readers who are familiar with my work know me from The Sordid Promise and it’s often been labeled my debut book, but it wasn’t. I released StrangeHer Love (nka Punk) and two novellas from The Vamp Experience series the year before my first dark book was released. The Vamp Experience is a paranormal book, while StrangeHer Love was a gritty romance.
The Sordid Promise was a feeler book, and I honestly never intended to release anymore “dark” books after I temporarily shelved the completed followups to The Sordid Promise in the summer of 2014.
The dark genre has changed quite a bit since then, and because of the changes, I’m no longer able to write to the dark book market. I’m very much looking forward to returning to my roots.
Q: What made you want to start writing and what influences you to write?
A: I was bullied a lot as a kid because I was the only girl who looked like me in the entire school. Writing became an outlet and a way to express myself. I continue to publish because of the amazing readers who support me, no matter the genre.
Q:What are your achievements in life?
A: I was very lucky to have several books hit the three-digit rank on Amazon. While not a big deal to some, it was a huge deal for me, and a major coup for books with diverse protagonists.
Q: I know you are busy writing Seducing Virtue and I cannot wait for it. What is next after Seducing Virtue?
A: The Vamp Experience, and hopefully, more paranormal books and possibly some gritty romances.
Q: Paranormal romance is one of my favourite genres. What made you want to start writing paranormal romance? What influenced you to include vampires in your stories?
A: I’ve always loved paranormal and fantasy books. Early on, my stories were in these genres. I have a box of handwritten stories and 90% of them are paranormal, urban fantasy, or speculative fiction.
Q: If one of your books was made into a movie, which book would you want it to be? Who would you cast as your main characters?
A: That’s a tough one, because the movie is never as great as the book. I’d be totally happy with my books remaining books and getting into the hands of more readers.
Q: How has writing impacted your life?
A: I’ve met some great people through my books. I’ve also learned some great lessons. Being an author definitely means sacrifices, but when it comes to the littlest one in my family, I can’t sacrifice her needs for my writing. It’s definitely taught me a lot about how to balance what matters the most.
Q: In the next five years, what do you want to achieve in terms of life and writing?
A: I would love to grow my readership and be able to make a living from writing (again).
Here are some fun quick fire questions for you

Thank you, Tanaka! This has been fun.
About Courtney Lane
COURTNEY LANE has been creating her own little world since she was very young. When she was eight years old, she began to bring her worlds to life with a pen and paper.
While many of her works touch several different genres, she has an archetype when it comes to the female protagonists in her stories -- they have to have certain brand of strength, be deeply flawed, and harbor layered personalities. In her books you will find themes that reflect the harsher side of life.
Currently, Courtney can be found either working on her next book, playing the latest role-playing game on her X-Box (preferably a game by Bioware), or spending time with her family.
