Title: Thin Lines
Author: Bethany Kris
Type: Series. The Bloodlines Trilogy, Book 2
Rating: 5 stars
"This wasn’t a fairy tale that would end happily. They weren’t star-crossed. They were impossible."
Why, Bethany Kris, why end it like this? Never in my days had a book rock me to the core the way Thin Lies did to me. I mean, I would have wanted this to impact me the way Thin Lies did but I never expected Thin Lines to really shatter my heart to smithereens. I never expected Thin Lines to really give the biggest book hangover on earth. I am still thinking about it after finishing reading it. Bethany Kris truly wrote a story that truly touched my soul. Yes it is a mafia book but what is so unique is that it showed more emotion which was heart pumping had me on the edge of my seat.
Thin Lines is the second book in the Bloodlines Trilogy which focuses on Calisto and Emma's relationship together. You must read Thin Lies first because it is the continuation to where we left. Emma is now married to Affonso and both Calisto and Emma have decided to forget what happened in Vegas. But sometimes you just do not forget things like that easily. They become friends but soon they faced with questioning their attraction for each other. Do they act on it again? Do their attraction turn into love? This book kind of reminded me of Romeo and Juliet with lovers doomed because of their love but with more action and more emotion that truly hurt my heart. The emotion was truly pouring out from the pages and this made the book so captivating to me. In Thin Lies, it started more of an introduction to Calisto and Emma's relationship but in Thin Lines, you delve deeper to their emotions and also get a glimpse to their vulnerabilities. I loved Thin Lines more because of that.
The writing in Thin Lines was so impeccable. Bethany Kris just brings out the best in her writing. Her writing just draws you. In this case, her writing brought out so many emotions, actions and drama that really made the book stand out. Personally, her writing just brought that magic that made this book so absolutely fantastic. I might be fangirling just a little bit.
"She wasn’t just Affonso Donati’s pretty, young wife with no opinion to share and her fake smiles plastered on. She had fire. She had passion."
I hated what became of Emma. I know it was because of Affonso. I personally hate Affonso and I really want him to die so bad. He is pure evil. Affonso was making her into a doll. Pretty and lifeless. It made me sick but she did regain her passion and fire. It always made me love her more. She does go through things that truly had me emotional and I loved the way she came up strong.
"When he fought, he was given release. When he drove, he was given freedom. When he looked at Emma, he was given memories."
I love Calisto. I felt for him from his duties to Affonso to having a forbidden attraction to Emma. All I want is to hug him. His feelings touched me to the core and I loved I got to see his vulnerable side more in this book. I was able to see more of his caring side which I love more of. He truly deserves to be in one of my list as book boyfriend. I totally love him.
Thin Lines was a fantastic book to read. It had forbidden love, action, drama, heart stopping emotion and characters that proved to impact the story. I need the next book so badly. I cannot wait to read it and to get my questions answered.
Title: Cutting Through The Darkness
Author: Ivy Love
Genre: Contemporary Romance/BDSM
Release Date: June 28
Rating: 3.5 stars
"When I’m in that place, there is only one thing that helps. Only one thing that helps pull me from the darkness that threatens to take me from the living to the dead."
Cutting Through The Darkness is an emotional, raw and heartbreaking story written by Ivy Love. It is a story that truly makes you feel sad and even makes you cry a bit. Thus is my first book written by Ivy Love and I truly enjoyed. The book itself captivated me and I was really amazed at how devoured it.
Cutting Through the Darkness is a story about Jess a woman who likes to cut. She meets Ian, an experienced Dom who gives her pain through BDSM to help her cope without having to cut. She decides to introduce her friend Kat, another cutter to experience the lifestyle with her friend Derek who will help her. These two women I truly felt for them because their pain was truly heartbreaking to me. Ivy Love really highlighted their pain through her writing. I was able to see the journey and too see Kat's transformation. I was able to understand what goes on in a mind of a cutter to the point it was heartbreaking to read. Depression can be a cruel thing and it truly showed in this book. The author was able to show the vulnerabilities of the characters.
I also loved the cover because it showed a broken woman with cracks in her life but wanting to break free from them. This describes Kat's nature. She was sick of having the darkness control and she wanted to be free and I commended her for that. Her willingness to be strong and to get better made this story breathtaking.
However, this book was too rushed. I would have loved it if there was more plot to the story. It was lacking in character development and also it needed more scenes. I was not convinced enough with the BDSM scenes and they were not as strong as they should be. The chemistry between Derek and Kat was too rushed that their chemistry was not believable. I would have wanted mote background on Derek and Kat. As a whole, the story was great. The theme was superb and I loved it but I needed more of it. I wanted to feel the connection between Kat and Derek. I wanted to feel the connection to Jess and Ian.
Otherwise, I really enjoyed this book. A few things needed to be included but the story was beautiful and the theme itself truly touched me and truly just made me feel emotional. Ivy Love really wrote a story that truly touched my soul.
Title: Cleat Catcher
Author: Celia Aaron and Sloane Howell
Genre: Sports Romance/Baseball
Type: Standalone. The Cleat Chaser Duet, Book 2
Release Date: June 30
“I hit big or I miss big. I like to live as big as I can.” - George Herman Ruth
I am probably the only person who went batshit crazy when I first found out Celia and Sloane were writing this book. I could not contain my happiness and when I received this ARC, I was so excited to go back into the world of Easton, Kyrie, Nikki, Braden and Kasey. Cleat Catcher focuses on Nikki and Braden's relationship. We get to delve deeper into their relationship and also get to know them better.
Braden is an amazing baseball player but after playing badly all season, he finds his career on the line. Nikki is an assistant and finds herself writing a story which later she is climbing slowly up in her career. Will Braden choose his career and let Nikki drop everything to be with him? Will he compromise choose love over his career?
I truly loved Cleat Catcher a lot. I tried to savor this book because I was devouring this book so fast like it was crack. It was light and a book that just made me smile throughout the book. It had the right the romance without being overly cheesy and it had so much humour that I laughed so hard my insides began to hurt. It was good. Brilliantly written by the dynamic duo, Celia Aaron and Sloane Howell, Cleat Catcher was a story that captivated my soul and just made me feel like I was flying in a cloud of happiness. I was mesmerized.
What I loved more in Cleat Catcher was the characters. They just made this book so damn good. To go back into their world was just amazing. It felt as if I never left. Their chemistry so unquestionable and believable, I felt completely comfortable and just simply enjoyed.
"Braden was a lot of things—star athlete, decent dresser, funny, smart, hot as fuck—but far and away his best attribute was his kissing ability."
Braden was an amazing hero. He was a dirty talker. Omg, his filthy mouth made me combust. He was caring, funny and just so lovable. With him and his struggles, he could be closed off and he simply withheld information.
"I just had to keep working, keep doing my best, and—most importantly—never sacrifice who I was to fit into someone else’s mold. As long as I stayed true to myself, my dream would come true."
I loved Nikki more. Ambitious and truly driven, she truly was the perfect contrast to Braden. Loved her funny and strong attitude which made like her even more.
Cleat Catcher was truly a fantastic book to read that truly made you think sometimes you got to let the person you love in and solve problems together.
A note to the talented writing duo, would you please with cherries on top write about Kasey. Pretty please. You just can't help but want a book about her.
Title: To Follow My Heart
Author: Sherry Ewing
Genre : Historical Romance/Time Travel
Rating: 4 stars
I am now becoming a fan of Sherry Ewing. She writes books that totally enchant you to the point that you become engrossed in the book. I was not much of a fan of historical romance but after reading one of Sherry Ewing's books, I am now loving it and definitely going to read more of her books and even give historical romance a try. Plus this is a time travel book which to a shock I loved it even though some might find it strange. To follow My Heart was truly an engaging book and I truly loved reading it.
To Follow My Heart is about a woman Jenna who is whisked back to 1182 after going through a terrible break up from her fiancé. She runs to Sir Fletcher, a knight. She does not believe where she is and she takes a while to fully comprehend where she is. She becomes attracted to Fletcher and quickly falls in love with him. This story was so charming and sweet. I do not usually go for stories like this but this story truly captivated me. it was not cheesy and sometimes there were parts that truly amused me and made me smile a lot. Definitely a book that will cheer you up when you have a bad day. I praise Sherry Ewing for giving a truly unique story that makes you love magic and the force of time travel.
The writing was truly unique. Even though some of the text was written in Shakespear language, I could follow the story easily. ok, some people would think its boring but it made me think of the days in high school when I came across the language in English Literature. It was truly memorable to me. The characters were fantastic. I loved Fletcher. He was such a gentleman and I am so glad he found love after he had feelings for a married woman. At first, I did not like Jenna because she was a bit selfish but she later grew on me. I loved their journey to love.
Overall, To Follow My Heart was truly a magical story and showed sometimes you have to sacrifice for love.
