You know when you read a book and you feel a certain hype about it or it just makes you feel so giddy inside then you know you are reading an awesome book. Blood to Dust gave me that feeling. I have been waiting to read this book and when I got my hands on it, I just could not contain my happiness. To make matters interesting, this book was written by L.J. Shen who I started to stalk relentlessly after reading Sparrow which became my favourite book from her. Blood to Dust surpassed my love for Sparrow and became my now favourite book from L.J. Shen. It captivated me from start to finished. I was truly in awe.
"This is the story of a boy and a girl fighting storms and trying to find peace in the most unexpected place."
Blood to Dust is about Nate, a former prisoner, who is tasked by Godfrey, a drug lord to keep Prescott a woman for a month as a way to pay a debt owed to him. More like babysit her for a month and then hand her off. Does Nate hand her off to Godfrey? Do they get attracted to each other? I am not going to say more about Blood to Dust because you need to experience this amazing books without spoilers. Experience the Grit. Experience the Action. Experience the Dark. Blood to Dust was beyond amazing. I mean the sheer amount of plot that was written in this book was so beautifully constructed. It was like watching a music conductor conducting a beautiful symphony. It was just purely effortless. I was magnetized by everything in this book.
L.J. Shen is pure genius. I bow down to her. She is so talented that all the scenes she writes in her books just click. Who knew that she would write a book that was just different like any other book or that she gave us a plot that was beyond our wildest dreams. She is just simply brilliant. Everything in Blood to Dust was just mesmerizing. From the dialogue to the plot to the sex scenes, Blood to Dust was so captivating. It was so good that I was so addicted to it to point that my eyes were glued to the book. I was up all night and all I wanted to read this book. It was beautifully dark, gritty and suspenseful and I just could not get enough of it. Not only was Blood to Dust so intense, there was some lightness in the book that had me smiling and laughing. I could not contain myself. It was just awesome and unique.
"I used to be a sister, a daughter , a girlfriend and a friend. A poet, a dreamer and an honor student. But now. . .now I’m alone, left to fend for myself, with no one to look out for me."
Prescott was just such an amazing heroine. I always look forward to L.J. Shen's heroines because she writes badass, sassy and strong heroines. Prescott was that heroine. I was in awe of a strength and that she was not intimidated at all. I loved her. I even loved her sarcasm and jokes that made her such a lovable character. The situation she was in sucked as hell and I felt for her more.
"She’s hurt and broken in her own , fancy-ass country club way. And I’m hurt and broken in my own, broke-ass ghetto way."
NATHANIEL EFFING VELA. Be still my beating heart. Lol. Yes. Nate. The man who for stole my heart in this book. The man who had my heart pumping. Hahaha. He was explosive. I mean BOOM, there is Nate Vela. I loved him. So flawed. So intense. He had my heart from the start. Move over Troy Brennan, I got a new love. He was so secretive and commanding but I fell in love with his soft nature which was a surprise that he did care. He made me swoon so much. Plus Prescott was so damn lucky. Kind of wanted to hate her. She got ploughed by Nate lol. Don't ask me what plough means lol.
Prescott and Nate were so amazing together. There had so much chemistry and loved them together.
Overall, Blood to Dust was just bloody fantastic and proves to be my favourite book of 2016. I can't wait for what L.J. Shen has in store for us. I know she truly blew me away with Blood to Dust.
