"The sparrow is associated with freedom. At one time, sailors got a tattoo of a sparrow for every five thousand nautical miles they traveled. Sparrows were believed to bring good luck. Sometimes the sailor got his sparrow tattoo even before leaving the docks, hoping it would act as a talisman and help bring him safely home again."
I love coming across new authors I haven't read before and then happen to come across a book I totally love from a new author. A book that makes so excited that you have discovered a new author that you totally loved and from now on will continue to read her books. That is a glorious feeling. I really loved this book. From the characters to the writing to the action. Everything.
We meet Sparrow and she looks at a mirror getting ready for her wedding to powerful , dangerous and wealthy Troy Brennan dubbed "The Fixer". She does not know why she is getting married to this dangerous man. We also meet Troy Brennan , a man who loved his father so much that when he saw his father killed, he is on a journey to find out who killed him. He is on a vengeance path. He later finds out in his father's will that he has to marry Sparrow for a reason. Secrets are withheld and lies are told.
Sparrow is a totally unique story. Set in Boston, it is a story about vengeance, love and action. I am not a fan of virgin to hero stories but this story really impacted me a lot. It had me on the edge of seat, had me rambling and screaming to the book a lot, laughing, swooning and smiling. Page by page I was hooked in and pulled into a story that was totally different from what I read. I was even pleasantly surprised at how intriguing this story was to me. I mean it is not a love and flowers type of story by simply love hate story between two characters.
The characters were so explosive and addictive. I loved that the author was able to showcase more of a storyline of these two characters than just having a hot scene throughout the book. She allowed us to really concentrate and know the characters history, background and even get to understand what the were thinking. I loved the banter between them and the undeniable chemistry that was both believable and added a good flow between the characters. I really loved them a lot. Sparrow and Troy.
Sparrow is the character I totally loved. She is a virgin but she is no ordinary virgin. She was snarky, sarcastic and damn she was fearless and badass. She was no wilting flower and I loved she could take on the dangerous Troy Brennan. Loved that she was fearlessly independent. She did not care about Troy's money and she was not allowing Troy to simply bombard her life just like that. Truly one of my favourite heroines.
Troy Brennan at first I did not like him at all. He was the biggest asshole and slightly cruel and mean. But he changed my mind when he started showing that he had some sort of kindness in his heart. He was so secretive and dangerous, commanding and downright scary sometimes. He was the perfect contrast to Sparrow.
Overall I really loved this story so much. I do not read Mafia stories but there are a few like this one that I would go back to and read all over again. Action, mystery, one badass heroine, one dangerous hero and you get an awesome story which so much drama and a balanced level of hotness.
