Vasilije Markovic is the prince of the Serbian mafia and one of the most powerful men in Chicago. His smile may be razor sharp, but he’s crueler than the devil.
I’m playing a dangerous game and betting my life I’m going to win. I pretend to be his pawn. I do as he says and move where he tells me, letting him think he’s in control as I position myself for revenge.
Every turn brings us closer. His grin doesn’t seem as evil when we’re alone. Behind closed doors, I welcome his unrelenting and vicious personality. He’s confessed all his secrets, but I’m holding one back and it’s a game changer.
If I survive the board, this pawn turns into a queen. I become the most powerful player and send all the other pieces running. To get what I want, I must make sacrifices, but am I willing to draw the line at him?
My Rating: 4 stars
Wow, what a pulsing and energetic book. It was freaking one of the best dark mafia romance books I have ever had. I was in a roller coaster of emotions when I read Torrid. A magnetic standalone. A powerhouse of a book, Torrid was my first book from Nikki Sloane and I was definitely impressed by both the writing and the plot. She definitely produced a story on another level. I am totally a huge fan of mafia. It is one of my ultimate favourite genres and I am very picky but Torrid definitely caught my attention and left me very much intrigued.
Dangerous. Steamy. Riveting. Torrid was a fast paced dark and gritty romance that tantalized my soul. It was a glorious and delicious beast of a story that left me breathless and crazed. It was a brilliant mafia that I could not get enough. I just needed more. It devoured my soul. It rippled my mind. It touched every possible vein in my body. I was mesmerized. I was gripped. I was lost in this story that I did not want to come to reality. Torrid was explosive. It was a punch drunks shot to my system. Nikki Sloane really made a huge an impression on me a lot. She put so much tension and steaminess into the book that I flt it. I felt the passion. I felt the darkness. I felt the sultry edge of the story. Nikki Sloane showed how talented she is with her powerful and wicked words. My only small criticism is she should have added more darkness. She should not have hold back since Sordid was previously banned on Amazon. But otherwise Torrid definitely titillated me.
I have a term that the characters make the book. Oksana and Vasilije totally made this stand out. Two tortured and flawed characters who make an explosive and off the charts couple, I was truly enamored by them. There was so much tension, sexiness and seductiveness between them that appealed to me. Oksana was one of my favourite heroines. She was submissive yet brave, strong and badass. She was not a doormat or wallflower. She was bold and tenacius. I loved that. Vasilije was just like any other mafia made man. Cold, calculating, dominating and intense, he was a force. There was also some endearing qualities about him. I would have wanted more darkness from him. I respected their dominant-submissive role. It was engaging.
Torrid definitely was an awesome read. It is a dark one that left me craving for more. I will definitely reading more books from Nikki Sloane.
Nikki Sloane landed in graphic design after her careers as a waitress, a screenwriter, and a ballroom dance instructor fell through. For eight years she worked for a design firm in that extremely tall, black, and tiered building in Chicago that went through an unfortunate name change during her time there. Now she lives in Kentucky and manages a team of graphic artists. She is a member of the Romance Writers of America, is married with two sons, writes dirty books, and couldn’t be any happier.
